May Bank Holiday

Where did the sunshine go?  Why is it on bank holidays the sun wont put it’s hat on and come out to play!  Never mind we soldiered on and have managed to get a lot of the little jobs done. We have opened a new  bed,  yes another one, we needed a bit more space to put the runner beans in so thought we would experiment with an visually pretty vegetable bed in which we will grow some runner beans , swiss chard and red lettuce.  The Victorians  grew runner beans as ornamentals and so will we but we will also enjoy the produce they will bring too. Seeds to seedlings and Spring is on the way…

Today the first seedlings have appeared, aubergine Thai yellow egg,  aubergine Thai green pea and onion red baron  so now its fingers crossed now they can grow on into fine healthy plants.  Also,  as a bit of an experiment I took the seeds out of some supermarket bought chilies and dried them on some kitchen towel paper,  planted them on and they have produce seedlings.  I cant wait to see what the plants will be like. Maybe they wont come to much,  it’s a learning process which ever way it goes. I took a tip from  http://www.yougrowgirl.com/grow/lemongrass.php  and bought some lemon grass and put it in water to root, they are now slowly making roots so it will be interesting  to see how quickly it grows on. Volcanic Tom Yam

This soup is  a panacea, a cure all, penicillin in the pot. This request is down the ‘hot and firery’ path. Since doing some research, there does seem to be the basic ingredients and then… well it s a mine field, personally i don’t eat meat so the pork or chicken is not going to go in my pot but you can easily incorporate these in yours, when you look at the fish its any and everything and i suppose is a matter of which you prefer.
